This morning, I saw that the counter on the blog had finally hit the 10,000 mark! It may be a small number, compared to a ton of other blogs out there, but it’s quite an accomplishment for me. I was never much of a writer, or a blogger. But since I found WordPress, it’s been getting easier and easier.
Well, enough with the sappy thank you speech. In honor of the blog hitting the 10,000 reader mark, I give you 2 Moments of Zen that could very well be worth the 10,000 readers! Enjoy!
I know I haven’t written here in a while (and that’s going to change), but can somebody tell me why girls like this are allowed to graduate from High School? In case you need a little “briefing”, Miss *Teen* South Carolina was told that 1/5 of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map (based on a poll). She was then asked to explain why she thought that could be. Below, is her amazing answer.
Was he… laughing!?
Good lord… no wonder the rest of the world laughs at the United States! I live in the states and I’m laughing! Well.. what I’m really laughing at is today’s Zen.
When Family Guy picks on or includes a celebrity, musician, actor, or a popular character in an episode, I think it should be looked at as an honor. Of course, Seth and his crew of animators and writers can be harsh on those characters. However, I was able to find one bad (yet, hilarious) clip with one of my favorite vocalists. The bad part, is that he’s falling down a lot of stairs. The funny part? Well, I’ll just have to let my Daily Moment of Zen explain that. Enjoy!
I know this is a short one, but I found this video on YouTube and I absolutely had to share it! Even though I’ve already posted two Zen videos today, here are two more!
Photo Time is a new column here on the blog, highlighting interesting photos from across the internet. Since this is the first installment of many to come, I thought I would explain how it works. First, I’ll post a photo that was either sent to me or found while browsing the web. Finally, I open up the discussion of the photo to you, leaving comments and your thoughts on the photo. So, without any further interruptions, I give you… Photo Time!
Discuss!
While you’re discussing, take another look at the photo for a second. Doesn’t it make you wanna do this?
Are you a child of the 80’s? Did you watch TV everyday before you left for school? Did you watch Nickelodeon? Did you watch Mr. Wizard’s World? Did you enjoy the show? If you answers ‘Yes’ straight through those five questions, then do I have some news for you.
My fellow Nickelodeon-watching children of the 80’s, we have lost yet another icon of our era of television. Mr. Wizard himself, Don Herbert, lost his battle with cancer yesterday and passed away at the age of 89. In case you might have had a brief memory lapse, here’s a little clip that should jog your memory of the show.
I vividly remember watching Mr. Wizard’s World almost everyday before I left for school. I actually attribute some of my finest elementary school science projects to experiments I saw on the show. Mr. Wizard made science easy and cool, even though most of my friends in school thought doing well in Science was dorky and geeky. It’s because of you, Don Herbert, that I was able to cruise through all of my Science classes with 99 averages and A’s on all of my tests! (coming from the kid who went to college for Music and not Science… go figure…)
Godspeed, Mr. Herbert…
If you’d like more information about Don or the show, please visit the Mr. Wizard’s World website, or visit my my good friend TryBecca and read her ‘Mr. Wizard Testimonial‘. Now, I present to you my Daily Moment of Zen. Brian, Stewie… please pay homage to the Wizard…
Today is my sister’s birthday, so I’ll be spending the day with her instead of writing a cool new blog. But until then, please enjoy your helping of the Daily Moment of Zen, brought to you by Elton John, William Shatner, and the one and only, Stewie Griffin!
And I think it’s gonna be a long… long… time…
If that didn’t do the trick, maybe you need a little Saxophone therapy. Take it away Bill!
So it’s been a few days since my last post, and I’ve run dry of any blogging inspiration. But never fear! I’ll be full of ideas in a day or so! For the time being, enjoy my Daily Moment of Zen… a couple of videos that I collectively like to call, Darth Stewie!
[ Edit: The following post is meant to be half funny, and half serious. It's up to you to decide which half is which. Decide wisely ]
Wait… did you think this post was going to be about how Sanjaya Malakar is ruining the TV Show Phenomenon that is American Idol? Maybe you’re right… NOT! How about this… The current season of the TV Show Phenomenon that is American Idol is just a metaphor for the future of the Music Industry. Offended? Outraged? Perhaps you’d be better off with some *Biased American Crud*
What would a Sanjaya victory on American Idol mean for America? It means a lot of things. Sanjaya would be signing a record deal. Sanjaya would be releasing an album. Sanjaya would be going on tour. What else would it mean? Simply put, the American Dream would once again be able to spit in the face of those that stand to defile that dream. Sad as it sounds, there are sick people in this country that want this 17 year old kid (that’s right, he’s a KID!) humiliated. Even worse, there are psychotic people in this world that promote the idea that this 17 year old kid (once again, he’s a KID!) is dead!? That’s right. Don’t believe me? CLICK!
[ Edit: If you knew me, you'd know that the only thing I'm serious about in this post is the state of the music industry. Who actually watches AI? Oh wait, I didn't mean to insult you ;) ]
Voicing an opinion is a wonderful gift that we must always take advantage of. But wishing or falsifying death to a 17 year old kid (who is only trying to achieve the American Dream) because he is ruining your evening television time, and calling that funny? That’s Unfortunate…
[ Edit: For those of you who completely misunderstood the humor in the above section, the story in the blog was an April Fools joke. Pshhh, get with it people! ]
Sure, American Idol is a *Talent Show* where *Talented* individuals move on based on their *Talent*… wait.. you don’t actually believe that, do you? Replace the phrase “Talent Show” with “Popularity Show” (and so on), and then you’ll understand what American Idol has become, and will eventually be its much-anticipated downfall.
It seems like the American Ear has forgotten that “Music” does not always come from the “Marketable”. Unfortunately, it seems as if “Marketability” has conquered “Music”. Is this what the Music Industry has really become? A bloodsport of popularity, status, and money? What happened, Record Labels of America? Did you run out of ways to fool the population? Afraid that your time is coming to an end? Feeling the Pressure? Start scouting Live Shows, or go play some Wii…
Music will rule the stages, stereos and airwaves once again. When? Sooner that you think…
Until then, please enjoy my Daily Moment of Zen, brought to you by Hugh Grant!
[ Bonus Points to anyone who can name an actual 80's/90's group that looks and sounds like Mr. Grant's theatrical shindig in the video! It can be more than one group ]
And now, for the grand finale!
You know what really Fidgets my Widgets? Major League Baseball games on FOX! Does anyone else find Tim McCarver’s voice grating and lame? I don’t need him on my television explaining what the *A* and *L* stands for in *AL* OR telling me that the Mets game is at Shea Stadium when they’re in Atlanta! Are you serious? Get off my TV!
In case you don’t know who Tim McCarver is, let Brian from Family Guy introduce you.
